The caption I have given this picture has a motive; this is really the first butterfly this spring that came my way in my town in the garden yesterday morning. Since it is the very first butterfly, it deserves a red carpet welcome from me :).

I was sitting on the lawns close to those Flame of the Forest trees in full bloom in the garden, waiting for the Sunbird and other birds to return to their bright red flowers and to suck nectar from them. I already had one photo session with them and wanted more. They had flown away after hearing the noise the motor of my 70-300mm makes.

Suddenly, a big and healthy Plain Tiger, Danaus chrysippus butterfly glided into my view and very confidently settled on a red petal of the Flame flower that had dropped to the ground. The camera mounted with the 70-300mm was already in my lap, so I raised it and took pictures of this butterfly without haste. It ocassionally changed positions, leaving the 'red carpet' momentarity, so I have also taken some fine pictures of it with its wings open.
I am pleased to post this one today for your viewing and I hope you would like it.

Plain Tiger is the most frequently seen butterfly in my country. It is a beautiful butterfly that is never in a hurry. We Indians have been posting its pictures frequently, so I would avoid giving you a standard note from Wikipedia.

Thanks for looking and for your kind observations.

Nice capture of the butterfly. Perfect colours and view.

Hi Ram!

The story that lead to this picture is so exciting. A red carpet for a butterfly... only a respectful nature lover can imagine such a situation. I believe you are right, the creatures on this earth are worth a red carpet. Hello Ram !
I think this picture would have been beautiful even without the buttefly, just by the gogeous contrast between red and green - but then this Plain Tiger decided to add himself on your photo, making is simply PERFECT. I love the vivid colors, the pose of the butterfly, the composition. And maybe this species of butterfly isvery common in your country, but here we do not have him, so it's always a pleasure to see him on pictures. Very well done !

Hello Ram,

Hello Ram,
A remarkable coincidence captured in a picture of outstanding qualities! Perfectly well balanced composition, an absolutely delightful arrangement of sunny colours in pleasantly gentle sunlight. And the droplet of water on the butterfly's proboscis in the centre is just the final touch to this beautiful, quintessentially poetical scene of young spring.
!ncredible India!
My congratulations. With thanks, and best regards,
