Your first shot is a very interesting one.
What a strange cricket..with the typical desert colors. I think this creature has never been presented on this site until now.

Welcome to Trek Nature.
This is a great shot to start off with.
We have an insect very similar to this in New Zealand,but ours live in the forest,not the desert.
We call them 'Weta' here,which is a Maori name,but in other countries they are usually called King Crickets.
I think your one is probably a kind of Jerusalem Cricket (Stenopelmatidae).
If you do a Google web search or image search of Stenopelmatidae you should be able to find out enough information to write about it.
