Friends, in a way, the scarcity of subjects for me at this time of the year is proving to be a blessing in disguise. I am delving deep into my archives to find out if I have anything worthwhile to post here on TN.
You know what? I have a portable drive in which I have been stowing away my previous shoots for more than one year. It is only rarely that I have opened this drive and this morning, I did it with a purpose.
I was surprised that I had one shoot of June 2008 completely untouched. Most of the pictures in it were of my favourite dragonfly -- Orthetrum sabina or Slender Skimmer. This is the most frequently seen species in our garden, but this year, I'm still waiting to see one.
So here is one I have dug out from my almost forgotten archives:

Orthetrum sabina is a common and widespread dragonfly found all over Asia and parts of Australia, the Middle East and Northern Africa.
The skimmers or perchers and their relatives form the Libellulidae, the largest dragonfly family in the world. It is sometimes considered to contain the Corduliidae as the subfamily Corduliinae and the Macromiidae as the subfamily Macromiinae. Even if these are excluded (as Silsby does) we are left with a family of over 1000 species. With nearly worldwide distribution these are almost certainly the most often seen of the dragonflies.
The genus Libellula is mostly New World, but also boasts one of the few endangered odonates from Japan - Libellula angelina. Many of the members of this genus are brightly colored or have banded wings. The related genus Plathemis includes the whitetails. The genus Celithemis contains several brightly marked species in the southern United States. Members of the genus Sympetrum are called darters (or meadowhawks in North America), and are found throughout most of the world. Several Southern Hemisphere species in the genera Trithemis and Zenithoptera are especially beautiful. Other common genera include Tramea and Pantala.

Thanks for looking and regards to all.

A real treasure you have found in your archives, Ram!
Practically all the ingredients of a good drangonfly portrait are shown in this image: the composition, POV, good focusing and shapness and fine contrast with the leafy Bg.
In short an excellent capture of Slender Skimmer, a species that we in Europe have become acquainted with thanks largely owing to your photographic skills.
All the best,
