Nice to meet you all in this forum ! recently I had an opartunity to visit Sasan Gir national park situated in Gujarath State, which is also known as last home of Asiatic Lions. Due to rain I was unable to visit santury, this climatic condition was turned as a boon in disguise! in the campus area of forest office there was a big fig tree full of figs and filled with frugivorous birds. As the weather was cloudy and drizzling it was difficuilt to photograph.
The bird in this picture is Known as Yellow Legged Green Pigeon (Sc.Name:Treron phoenicoptera),an arboreal bird affects well wooded area, very rarely descends to the ground. banyan peepul figs are favorite diet in their Menu, hence we can see them in flocks in such fruit bearing trees busy in feeding and gulping the whole fig at single attempt, normally at canopy level of the tree. These birds are very shy and fly away to the nearest trees with the least disturbance and returns to the same feeding tree after a while.Olive green color of the bird helps in camouflaging in the leafy trees. yellow legs are diagnostic.Really these fig trees are like a bird sanctuary where we can see such rare birds.
