In this case, the camera has focused on the leaf in the foreground, so the caterpillar is not quite sharp. Also, I suggest a small correction - the species (in both postings) is the silver-striped hawkmoth (also know as the vine hawkmoth) Hippotion celerio. The caterpillar is similar to D. elpenor, but with practice it is not difficult to tell them apart.
