[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Jewel Bugs belong to the family Scutelleridae or shield-backed bugs, due to the fact that their shield is continuous and not divided. Bugs in this family are usually colourful with metallic colour of spots.

Shield-backed bugs are plant suckers. They can be distinguished from other bugs by their scutellum (the third of the four pieces forming the upper part of a thoracic segment of an insect) completely covered the whole abdomen and wings. This is why sometimes they are mis-recognized as beetle. They are easily distinguished from beetles by having sucking mouthparts and the shield on the back is continuous, not the divided wings cover with separation at the middle. The little ones have orange on their exterior and once fully grown the orange disappears and it then has the neat shiny metallic coat with distinct black dots.

Nature is always known to be a master at camouflage. One would think the bug's eye-catching metallic coat could work against it. But nature has its own designs. If they were easy prey, you'd find lots of birds and other predators around.

Maybe they taste horrible or maybe they are even poisonous or emit some kind of a fluid in such an eventuality.Because the bugs are usually brightly colored, they are known as Jewel bugs. Since these are green they are also known as emerald jewel bugs.

Bonjour Kapil,
Un petit insecte aux couleurs inhabituelles et que ressemble aux petites coccinelles avec une couleur différente.
Belle composition et belle image.
Amitiés
