Well, I seem to be over-doing this Kingfisher lately, but I can't help it! This is the only bird that has not disappeared from my school campus despite destruction of the natural habitat that existed in the form of a vegetable farm surrounded by trees and other dense foliage. It now occupies some remaining trees in the vicinity of the construction site during the day. Yesterday it was dull and cloudy, but today we had good sunshine in the afternoon. I had only my Canon compact camera with me, so when I noticed this Kingfisher perched calmly on the branch of a leafless tree, I tried some shots of it. Looking almost vertically upward with a compact camera to shoot a bird poses numerous problems, especially when we try to zoom up. The LED viewing screen goes bright in the daylight and it is almost impossible to zero the focus on the bird. Anyway, some shots which I took in auto mode came out to be pretty good and here is one of them.
I removed the BG noise by using NeatImage and Gaussian Blur tool of PS CS3. Hope you like it.
Here is a selective note on it from Wikipedia:

Feeding and Diet

It perches conspicuously on wires or other exposed perches within its territory, and is a frequent sight in south Asia. This species mainly hunts large crustaceans, insects, earthworms, rodents, snakes, fish and frogs. Predation of small birds such as the Oriental White-eye, chick of a Red-wattled Lapwing, sparrows and munias have been reported. The young are fed mostly on invertebrates.

Hello Ram,
Nice to see your pictures....Incredible clarity, focus and razor sharp details. Very nice saturated colors. Perfect exposure and WB. I like this superb Kingfisher....Absolutely fantastic colors and clarity. The natural habitat along the rivers and swamps are destroyed also in my country....the authorities are doing a very little about this....

hello Ram,
Don't mind the repetition of subject, somehow each picture is different. I like the way the Kingfisher is posed on the branch and your chosen point of view.
Take care!

I don't blame you taking many shots of this impressive bird Ram. I would do the same!
This is a fine capture of the White-breasted Kingfisher, the white breast, eye and bill shining in the strong light while the rest of the features are seen with fine sharpness from this frontal POV.
It's nice to see this one perched on a branch instead of a wire!
Thanks and best regards,
