NILGIRI or BLACK LANGUR (Trachypithecus johnii)
These langurs once almost hunted to extinction due to the supposedly medicinal value of its flesh as well as deforestation are found in the western ghats of South India.
This primate has glossy black fur on its body and golden brown fur on its head. It is similar in size and long-tailed like the gray langurs. Females have a white patch of fur on the inner thigh. It typically lives in troops of nine to ten monkeys The animal is often seen encroaching into agricultural lands. Its diet consists of fruits, shoots and leaves. The species is endangered due to deforestation and poaching for its fur and flesh, the latter believed to have aphrodisiac properties. |

Hello Navnith Krishnan - Truly beautiful...U r lucky to get such elegant pose of this "Nilgiri Langur". Very nice light on face, as well as sharpness. Eye looks bright and typical expression. I also like the way you have showed us its natural habitat. Moreover the way you have left little bit empty space in left side, matched well in this situation(To Me). Like this picture with useful NOTE. Thanks for sharing. Regards and have a nice WE - Srikumar
