[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Red-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) is a member of the bulbul family. It has spread from southern Asia to Pacific and to United States and is considered as an invasive species in many parts of the world. It is easily identified by its short crest giving the head a squarish appearance. The body is dark brown with a scaly pattern while the head is darker or black. The rump is white while the vent is red.

It is considered as pest because of its habit of damaging fruit crops. It can also disperse the seeds of invasive plants like Lantana camara and Miconia calvescens.

I found this bird inside a shrub in Kotagiri in Nilagiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu. It was a foggy day and with little light it was quite difficult to capture the image. I had to increase the ISO. Later I sharpened the image further and made it more grainy to capture the black eyes in the black crest.

HI Bala, this is a masterwork considering the foggy day and the grey light, the sharpness is very very high, excellent shot about this bulbul,i like it! Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hello Bala,
Your Red-vented Bulbul is a beautiful bird indeed. I like its little head crest and the attractive markings in its plumage. Good eye contact with a tad bit of catchlight. Not easy to capture such a shot on a foggy day.
A little grainy, but this can easily be removed. Hope you don't mind, but I wanted to try a WS.
Ron

Nice fresh picture of Red Vented Bulbul, Bala.
Looks like it has fluffed its feathers to ward off cold.
I like the catch-light in its eye.
Ram

Hi Bala,
I agree with Ron about the grain and the low contrast. If you try the lasso tool and the selective sharpening, you can avoid all the problems with the increased background noise.
Kind regards, have a nice Christmas, László
