The great barbet is an Asian barbet native to the Indian sub-continent and Southeast Asia, where it inhabits foremost forests up to 3,000 m altitude. It has been listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List since 2004 because of its wide distribution. |

I envy you for having made it to Sattal and used your long lens for taking pictures like this, Biswarup. This is my dream bird I have heard so much in my childhood (but rarely seen) in my native place in the hills, and you have taken a very beautiful picture of it. The posture of the bird in call mode is fabulous!
