INSECTS OF SULAWESI
This series of postings is intended to increase the knowledge on insects of Sulawesi. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups of this huge island.
Large parts are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.

The butterfly shown here is
- Zizina otis
- family: Lycaenidae

English: Lesser Grass Blue

Species information
- Distribution: China, Japan, Malay Peninsula, Indonesia: Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands, Borneo, Sulawesi, Maluku.
It is a rather small species with a wingspan of about 17 mm.

Location
Porabua - a small village in the vast mountaineous and rain forest covered region north of the line Kolaka - Kendari (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi).

Conditions
- bright natural light
- no wind
- handheld
Not easy to find the specimens in the dense vegetation and to take a picture there.

Lieber Peter,
Feines, subtiles Bild.
Hab herzlichen Dank
Anne

Hi Peter,
A nice capture of these tiny grass blues mating. Yes you are right they are not easy to get spotted. Very good sharp details and a lovely composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Ciao Peter. Perfetto doppio colpo in eccellente DOF.

Peter, great to see a macro after a long time. For some reason, I had not shot macros for over 6 months now. My Sigma 180 is gathering dust. Your picture is re-kindling my desire to do macros.

Hi Peter
Beautiful. Perfect photo. Great POV, perfect sharpness, great blured background, beautiful colors Nothing to critique ;-)
