[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This series of postings is intended to increase the knowledge on insects of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups of this huge island.
Large parts are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.

The dragonfly shown here is
- Neurothemis terminata
- family: Libellulidae

The species is not confined to Sulawesi in its distribution but occurs in large parts of South East Asia. It is a very common dragonfly but is always impressive.

Porabua - a small village in the vast mountaineous and rain forest covered region north of the line Kolaka - Kendari (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi).

- natural light
- no wind
- handheld
Patience is necessary to come close to this shy dragonfly.

Hi Peter. This one has some amazing looking coloured wings. Which you have taken with sharp focusing and fine detail. Your use of the light has given bright colours. well taken , with interesting notes .TFS.

A Happy New Year to you and your Family.

Hello Peter,

It is difficult to find a way to discuss this photo. It has many things that make a very thorough job. The high detail in the foreground, insect wings are seen in detail, are true natural works of art, with all the jumble of red veins on the dark tone. Very good job, well equipped with excellent brightness. As usual, the information attached is excellent.

Dear Peter!
Very nice profile picture of species which is known for me olny from interenet pictures. I like details and POV, but this time I also have a question :)
In the References you proveded publication by Knight and Holloway (1990) about insects from rain forests, are there any data about Cicindelidae? I do not know this publication but it can be interesting :>
All the best in 2010!
Friendly yours,

Hi Peter,
das ist heute eine Ehre, Dein Bildnachbar zu sein ... das ist eine ganz besondere Libelle, die Flügel sind einmalig schön und man sieht jedes kleinste Detail.
Wundervoll, Danke.
Sabine - wishnugaruda

One of the most beautiful dragonflies I've ever seen Peter, shown from a perfect POV with enough DOF made possible with an f/11 aperture so every point of the fly is pin-sharp against a pleasantly OOF BG in contrasty greens.
TFS and cheers,

hello Peter
a beauty ,great details and good pose with very good light
beautiful colours
great shot Peter
greeting lou

WOW! Amazing details on those wings. Fascinating.
And that red is so deep.
A great pose of the wings to show off the network of veins.
