INSECTS OF SULAWESI
This series of postings is intended to increase the knowledge on Sulawesi's biodiversity. Except for butterflies, little is known on most other insect groups and on spiders of this huge island. Many new species can be expected to be discovered. Large parts of Sulawesi are only poorly explored also with respect to butterflies, such as the south-eastern Peninsula, Sulawesi-Tenggara.
The picture shows a relatively large grasshopper species which I did not identify up to now.
This specimen was easily detectable in the vegetation in contrast to the two last shown grasshoppers which were well-camouflaged within their environment.
Location
Rain forest margin, about 20 km east of Kolaka (Indonesia, Southeast-Sulawesi) where I found numerous interesting animals.
Conditions
- bright natural light
- no wind
- handheld
Shortcomings
- The shadow on the left fore-leg is a bit disturbing.

Hello Peter.
A very nice capture of this grasshopper.
Your picture is so sharp that all details are very well to see.
The shadow on the left fore leg is in my opinion, not so disturbing, to mee it is more that the tip of the right antenna is not to see.
Keep going the good work.
Gr. Hans
Hi Peter,
Excellent close-up with perfect focus and good lighting!
PS:
Shortcomings
- The shadow on the left fore-leg is a bit disturbing.
Good heavens! is a joke right?
