Poepig named this aquatic plant as Euryale amazonica, named after place of origin of this gigantic plant, but Sowerby called it Victoria amazonica, named in honor of the Queen Victoria of England.

First discovered by Haenkel in Bolivia, in 1801 but published later by Poepig. Lindley also reported his discovery of this plant in British Guyana.

This is a tropical plant, where they can flower all-year-round, about once a week; in temperate zone, it rarely produce flower.

Amazing part of this plant is its leaf. Shape of leaf is round and flat with vertical edge, to form a plate. Diameter of leaf is about 1.0 to 1.5 meter [again, meter!]. The leaf is floating on water surface, able to carry load up to 12 kg [if there is no hole/damage to the leaf, that is...].

Upper surface of the leaf is smooth, but bottom surface, in contact with water, is covered by large and sharp spines.

Hi Benyamin.
Very original and well composed picture. Nice green colour palette, gentle paints and great DOF and details. Excellent done.

Hi Ben,
Great to see you TN as well. I really like your POV, showing us the poepig from front to back. I like the minimal but very rich colors.

well composed shot and good description

Hello Benyamin !
This is a very beautiful shot, with excellent composition and POV. The colors are vivid and natural, details are sharp. the leaves of these lotus look really huge, must be fantastic to see something like that in real ! :-) Very well done !

Hi Ben,
This is an excellent composition. Great detail and DOF here. Good color saturation. Very interesting plants. Excellent work here.

Good picture here! It almost looks a bit like the top right edge should be raised up a bit, as if the image isn't perfectly straight... but maybe it's just me. I think the arragement of the lilly pads is great. It really gives the picture a ton of perspective and depth. The colors are soft.. you could probably increase the saturation levels a bit without making them too strong. I also think the frame is distracting. All around great shot!

Wow, this is beautiful. Were you in a boat? Maybe I'm blind, but is that a firefly in the middle or something sticking out of the water?

Very nice. Thanks for explaining what these were; had been wondering for centuries.

Hello Benyamin,

You have a very nice portfolio! It was hard for me to pick a photo to comment on because I liked them all! This one has very nice colors and a warm light. Great use of DOF! You are lucky to have such great diversity of plants and animals in your country! Congratulations!

Hi Benyamin

Great scene. These lotus are giant really! Great low POV and fine colors.

Hi Benyamin,
This is a very interesting photo. Great natural colours and a very good composition. Strong visual impact, informative note too. Regards, Ruud

Cool repeating patterns here. The texture of the water is nice. The red rings around the plants really gives it good dimension. nice work,

Hi Benyamin,
Nice Giant Lotus Pads composition.
I like your pov,dof,colors,focus,sharpness,framing and note.TFS
Have a Great Day,

Amazing leaves. Good composition. Natural colours. Well exposed image. From the number of comments you have received, it is obvious that you have a winner here. Well done.

Extremly well composed; looks like a PAINTING.
Have one very similar; NOT NEARLY AS GOOD as this one,
taken in MANAUS, Brazil.

Very nice atmosphere from this pic. Composition and colors are excellent.
Your camera can produce sharper pics. Speed and F were proper. Strange that your pic is not more detailed.
