[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot appealed to me because of the lack of flowers and their replacement with these unusual seed heads which set off the butterfly so well texturally. So, while the butterfly is by no means rare, the image struck me as worth a look.

Whilst my Japanese butterfly eferene boks call this Zizeeria maha argia, D'Abrera includes maha under the genus Pseudozizeeria Beuret, 1955. Subspecies argia is found on the major islands of Japan, whilst there is a separate named subspecies from Okinawa, called, funnily enough Okinawa.

This species seems to be called the Pale Grass Blue in some literature, probably from Indian origins, and the species is range spreads from India to China and Japan.

The photo has been adjusted for levels and contrast in Photoshop, along with cropping, resizing and sharpening as normal. Neat Image has been used on the background - something I have just now discovered through contact with TN. What a good site this is...

Hi Alan
prefect composition with the butterfly and the tiny flower beside it..
very good dark BG and POV, DOF, sharpness and yet fine details on the wings...

Hi Alan,
This indeed is Pale Grass Blue and you have done wonderfully well here. Nice perspective and the darkish BG lets it stand out perfectly. Great light management and exposure and I like your POV to portray it. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Alan,

I love this picture of a butterfly, because, as it says in your notes the winged insect does go really well with the flowers.
The POV and DOF is great as well.

The only thing I would mention is that it is a tad blurry, but otherwise, it is great!

Thanks for sharing,
Ruby :)
