Green Broadbill
(Calyptomena viridis) 绿阔嘴鸟
Size: 18 cm - Ex/RB
Location – Panti Forest Reserve (Johor/Malaysia)
Description:
On Borneo, distinguished from two island endemic green broadbills by small size and plain plumage; unmistakable in rest of its range; female lacks black spots of male.
Voice:
A soft trill tui,tui, trrrr
Habits:
It frequents lowland and lower montane rainforest. It often overlooked, as it usually sits motionless inside the canopy or just below, flying quickly to a new position when disturbed. It foliage-green plumage offers a perfect camouflage. Unlike other broadbills, it feeds mainly on fruits. The nest is a large, delicately constructed pouch with a side entrance, suspended in the air, often near a forest stream.
