Hi friends in TN,

I took one shot of this fly perched on the tiny jasmine bud. It looked like an ordinary fly through my naked eyes. Once opened in large view, I noticed a strange trunk like feature at the tip of the front/mouth. I am not sure if there is such a fly or maybe it was feeding on something. I'm posting this image out of curiosity and I'm sure there are many knowledgeable friends out there who are ever willing to provide useful information. This is a true wonder of TN.

Thanks for viewing and have a wonderful week ahead.

EDIT
Since Foozi pointed out this fly is locally known as "pikat", it triggers in my mind that this might be a bloodsucking fly. That explains the long proboscis. Yes, this fly bites and it even hurt cows and other animals. A blackfly maybe!

Salam Jus,
an excellent shot of great clarity on this strange subject. in Kedah dialect they called it "pikat"- it bites and it really painful.
Even the cow could moooo loudly.

regards,
Foozi

Hi Jusni,
attractively well composed, well lighted image, powerfully concentrated on those powerfully protruding buds and the fly.
That insect's elongated probiscis really looks interesting and worth to be documented. Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

hello Jusni
beautiful shot with crisp clear details of the fly and the bud
I like all the tones of green of this picture and the light on the flower and insect
very well done
Jacqueline

Again you do well with the flash...and again it looks like you have mastered it and it is a good one, not your run of the mill 49.95 dollar flash...VERY good lighting under the tough situation. You do this much better than I..I disdain flash for me because I simply can never get it right!
Bob

Ciao Jusni, beautiful bug with lovely details and excellent sharpness, good natural colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Jusni,

An excellent close-up of this strange looking fly. Doesn't look like any I have seen before. The clarity is wonderful and the black and bronze colors are marvelous. It shows up very well on the plant.

Hi Jusni,
Nice detail, color, and composition.
Good POV & DOF also.
The mouthparts are simply extended at the moment of shooting Jusni..
They can appear quite large.
It's posing for ya ;}
