A silhouette is a view of an object or scene consisting of the outline and a featureless interior. The term comes from Étienne de Silhouette, Louis XV's miserly finance minister.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silhouette

In the fictional world of Deus Ex, Silhouette is a French terrorist group that is loosely aligned with the NSF. The bombing of the Statue of Liberty was confirmed as their action by their own declaration. The terrible irony of a French group destroying a monument created as a gift from the French to the Americans sent a message of an America devoid of liberty across the globe, and brought the group into the international spotlight. Silhouette was led by revolutionary Chad Dumier.
