[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was off for few weeks and wasn't active here on TN. Lot off work and not so much time...
I have many bug shots from Taman Negara captured during my jungle night walk and this is the one of them. I don't have so much experience with bugs identifications and can't give you so much info about this one.
When you are walking during the night in the middle of the jungle it is so dark that you can't see your finger in front of your eyes. My guide and me, we had torch of pocket lamp to navigate around and look for the bugs. He know where we can find many of them and showed to me. Only way to me to photograph in totally dark environment was with help of his torch. He pointed his torch on bug and even used laser light to help me to focus and than I photographed with use of flash and high ISO settings.

I used 1D Mark III @ 400 mm and ISO-1250 to photograph this guy which if I remember someone said that he sound like helicopter :) and it was really big.

Hi Ralf,

A nice capture of a beetle unknown to me,you managed very well under the dark conditions,as I suppose you had to use your manual focussing and I know this can be tricky when only a flashlight available, the amount of fillflash is just enough, well done and tfs

Hi Ralf. What a fine looking beetle this one is which you have captured with fine detail. The body has a good shine to it making the colours glow. A nice side view on the tree trunk. well done TFS.

Hej Ralf,
I cannot give you the exact ID but this is a species of Rhinoceros Beetle (Scarabaeiidae), some of which can be very large.
Technically great with superb use of the torch light and the POV shows the 'horn' well.
