Unmistakable. Itís diagnostic yellow and black head pattern. Unique; the only member of its genus.
A loud, cicada-like buzz.
Strictly mountain, this barbet is found only between 600 Ė 1600m elevation. It can be seen well at Malaysia hill stations, where its buzzing call is sure component in the backdrop of the forest sounds. It feed on fruiting trees or on insects and is active during most of the day. It flies heavily with rapid wing-beats into the next tree.
Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. Within the region, a locally fairly common resident in Peninsular Malaysia.
