Location: Fraserís Hill (Pahang)
Note the black head with blue cap, maroon mantle and elongated tail of the male. The female is drab olive.
A sharp, chirping call when feeding and flying.
A forest bird found mainly in lower mountain closed forest, from 600 to 1800m, and occasionally down to 300m. Feeds on flowers and small insects at all levels, often high in the canopy but also down to eye-level near the edges. Readily ventures into nearby gardens and camps where its visits ornamental flowers and bushes. It is quick and restless, but tame and easy to observe.
Oriental region. A locally fairly common resident in elevated areas of the mainland.
