Chestnut-Capped Laughingthrush
(Garrulax mitratus)
Size: 25 cm
Location: Fraserís Hill (Pahang)

Note diagnostic white patch in wing visible when perched and flying.

A varied song of slurred whistles.

A mountain rainforest bird found mainly between 800-2000m elevation; on Borneo between 300-3000m. A successful species found in primary forest and disturbed edges and in gardens. It perhaps the most numerous birds at Malaysia hill stations and popular resorts like Kinabalu National Park. It moves through the middle and lower storeys of the vegetation. It an omnivorous bird and it can become quite tame locally and picks up rice at the garden feeding tables.
