During my holiday, i climbed the highest peak in Kedah, Malaysia i.e Gunung Jerai.
In the forest up there I saw a few pitcher plants.
this is what I saw.
Nepenthes gracilis (pronounced /nɨˈpɛnθiːz ˈɡrsɨlɪs/, from Latin: gracilis "slender"), or the Slender Pitcher-Plant, is a very common lowland pitcher plant that is widespread in the Sunda region. It has been recorded from Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, central Sulawesi, Sumatra, and southernmost Thailand. The species has a wide altitudinal distribution of 01700 m above sea level, although most populations are found below 100 m and plants are rare above 1000 m.

The pitchers of N. gracilis are relatively unremarkable with a very thin peristome and no unusual morphological features. Despite being a widespread plant, natural hybrids between N. gracilis and other species are quite rare.

Nepenthes gracilis was formally described by Pieter Willem Korthals in his 1839 monograph, "Over het geslacht Nepenthes".
In 2001, Charles Clarke performed a cladistic analysis of the Nepenthes species of Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia using 70 morphological characteristics of each taxon. The following is a portion of the resultant cladogram, showing part of "Clade 6". The sister pair of N. angasanensis and N. mikei has 79% support.

Hi Foozi,

this is a very lovely flower and a great macro shot of the same! Very sharp details and bright colours. Nice DoF too!

Very well done!

TFS,
Kedar

Good morning Foozi,

This may be a very common pitcher plant, nevertheless, I have only seen pitcher plants at specialist nurseries in the UK. The opening looks so seductive that I am not at all surprised that insects are lured to their deaths in order to satisfy this carnivore!

I love the way that the pitcher is hanging by a tendril which indicates that it might be a climber?

Wonderful colours and sharpness. Thank you so much for showing me the beauty of this plant in the wild.

Greetings, Amelia

The best Pitcher Plant picture I have ever seen, Foozi.
From this POV, the shape of the 'pitcher' looks the most artistic. The colour scheme on the subject is beautiful.
This is the kind of masterpiece picture that makes TN a great place.
Well done and regards.

Hello Foozi,
A beautiful pitcher plant well portrayed to show the pitcher from a great POV with superb sharpness and colours against a fine neutral BG.
We saw several near the top of Penang Hill some years ago, but none as striking as this one.
Thanks and best regards,
Ivan

I love Pitcher plants and this one is gorgeous!! Fantastic close capture too showing excellent sharpness and lovely colours. Beautiful light and a very nice background too!

Hi Foozi,
poor flies which fall inside this flower ...
But the flower itself is very pretty and realy an interesting plant. I have seen it in tropical houses, you can even buy it here to keep it inside the house, but these plants don't like to be inside and die after a few weeks. Thanks, excellent shot

Hi Foozi,

The subject is well framed. The macro point of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the Slender Pitcher-Plant. The late morning light is bringing out the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hallo Foozi
This is absolutely beautiful. This plant reminds me of many things a few being a water jug with its lid, a Christmas stocking waiting to be filled and then a shofar that needs to be blown. But it is not one of those things but a most beautiful and most fascinating flower which is worthy of a lot of praises and adoration. You stun me time and time again with the interesting subjects you share and that is why I like Trek Nature so much, as I learn and come across things I never thought in my wildest dreams ever existed. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
