|Back from Mongolia (no bicycling this time):|
This male Daurian Redstart (Phoenicurus auroreus; Daurischer Rotschwanz) was not fleeing when I approached it in the Parlament park of Ulaan Baatar. It sits on an Siberian Larch. With the approaching winter the bird will migrate to Southern China, Japan or Korea. In East Asia the bird is a quite common sight in the Taiga, open forests and parks. The species has been presented before (and better, sniff!) on TN (see http://www.treknature.com/gallery/photo149427.htm)
