[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A nice April day, warm and sunny, in Pokara turned without warning into hell. The clouds rushed in, and giant ice balls as big and bigger than my fist fell. The Jacarandas were blooming, then stripped. The birds nests filled with eggs, all gone in a matter of minutes. No birds were left to sing, no flowers, few leaves on trees. The ground usually is barren, but now filled with leaves and ice balls. As they melted, rivers ran to the lake, and shops and homes flooded. Everyone ran out to save their roofs, and clean the mess before darkness arrived. Drops of rain are still falling here. No one had ever seen this before (only normal hail before). Some balls are round, but made of many small compacted balls. Some have a core and layers
of ice all around them. next year it happened inKathmandu once (but I was not there). |

Hello Gloria,
Seems like a real disaster this time!
It happens here to in spring or early summer but the hail seldom get more than 1.5 cm across...
In the image they are actually visible in the air, and with size like this they are probably dangerous for people too!
An interesting documentary...

Hi Gloria,
what really caught my atention were those spots of light.. but after reading your note may i say that those are ice balls???? a really mess!
let me tell you that those spots of ice gives the picture the detail, because the pic is very dark and and with a very foggy landscape.. what we can most see are shapes .
TFS
have a nice day
