Steller's Fish-Eagle (Halieetus pelagicus) -
This is a spectacular raptor averaging a meter in height and a wingspan of up to 2 meters. This was taken in the ice pack offshore Sakhalin Island in early May.
They were observed to to be preying on the newly born seal pups on the ice as well as feeding off the afterbirth. I guess when one is hungry any form of food is fair game.

I spent 6 months in Yuzhno-Sakhalin but I never had a chance to see one of these majestic birds. One day I will go there again just for it. Excellent picture, TFS.
