Buffy Fish Owl
(Ketupa ketupu) 马来渔鸮
Size: 50 cm
Description:
Note diagnostic white patch above bill; also distinguished from Brown Fish Owl by generally darker plumage with thicker black streaks.
Voice:
A soft to-wee.
Habits:
Frequents forest edges near streams; also found in mangroves and near plantations and wet paddy fields. It usually rests in a tree during the day and flies out at dusk to feed on fish, frogs and crustaceans near streams. Sometimes it also takes mice, bats and small birds. It nest in a hole in a rotten tree.
Distribution:
A rare resident breeder throughout Singapore. |
