Brahminy Kite Haliastur Indus

Did you know?
Brahminy Kites have weak feet so, although they have long, sharp curved claws, they cannot take large prey. However they are expert at snatching prey in flight.

The Brahminy Kite is one of the medium-sized raptors (birds of prey), with a white head and breast. The rest of its body is a striking chestnut brown. The very tip of its tail is white. The wings are broad, with dark 'fingered' wing tips and the tail is short. The legs are short and not feathered, the eye is dark and the lemon yellow coloured bill is strongly hooked. It sails on level wings along shorelines and mudflats.

Usually silent. Drawn-out descending wail, like a bleating lamb: 'pee-ah-ah-ah'; meowing notes.

Joke Time:

Why do hummingbirds hum?
Because they don't know the words.

Why do seagulls live near the sea?
Because if they lived near the bay, they would be called bagels.

A pair of chickens walk up to the circulation desk at a public library and say, 'Buk Buk BUK.' The librarian decides that the chickens desire three books, and gives it to them...and the chickens leave shortly thereafter. Around midday, the two chickens return to the circulation desk quite vexed and say,' Buk Buk BuKKOOK!' The librarian decides that the chickens desire another three books and gives it to them. The chickens leave as before. The two chickens return to the library in the early afternoon, approach the librarian, looking very annoyed and say, 'Buk Buk Buk Buk Bukkooook!' The librarian is now a little suspicious of these chickens. She gives them what they request, and decides to follow them. She followed them out of the library, out of the town, and to a park. At this point, she hid behind a tree, not wanting to be seen. She saw the two chickens throwing the books at a frog in a pond, to which the frog was saying, "Rrredit Rrredit Rrredit..."

Another set of lame jokes!

Hello Stephanie,
Exceptional image of this beautiful Kite. The birds of prey are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. I love the definition you have captured in the texture of the chest. Correct choice of DoF,
Well taken,

This is one bird I would love to take photos of for sure. Nice detail on the feathers Stephanie. The crop is nice too, because there is just enough to not distract.

Hi Stephanie,
Nice capture of this bird.
The POV and colors are great although the beak is not so clear due to its action maybe.
Interesting notes.

Hi Stephanie,

This bird really looks angry. Imposing shot. Great colors and details. My compliments!

Hi Stephanie,
Some strong contrasty light, but you managed the exposure very well. Excellent colors and sharp detail in the plumage. AAn excellent job on controling the DOF to create the great OOF backround.

Hi Steph,
Strong capture of this amazing bird. Love the POV and eye contact. Exposure is a little hot on the head but would have been too difficult to capture full shadow detail without the exposure you used. Doesn't detract much.
ps liked the chicken joke...buk buk buk

Lovely bird of prey, well taken.

Hello Stephanie,
Very nice colors, PoV and a good background. I liked the square crop and the joke :)

Well done.

Hello Steph,
At your question "did you know?"
I can answer: NO and this was most useful and interesting to read.

As it for the picture:
I think that this is very well composed with excellent pose, details and action caught.

As it for exposure :
I think that the top of his head is a little OE but…

… I can't tell how I could have done it differently :)

About the jokes :

I think that it is a very cute concept :)

Thanks and have a great weekend!
