Barn Owl
Tyto alba

The Upperparts are light grey with numerous fine dark lines and scattered pale spots on the feathers. There are buff markings on wings and on the back. The underparts are white with a few black spots, occasionally none. Feathering on the lower legs may be sparse. The heart-shaped facial disc is white with a brownish edge, with brown marks at the front of the eyes, which have a black iris. Its beak is off-white and the feet are yellowish-white to brownish. Males and females are similar in size and colour, females and juveniles are generally more densely spotted.

The Barn Owl calls infrequently, the usual call being a drawn-out rasping screech. The courtship call of male at nest is a shrill repetitive twittering. Adults returning to a nest may give a low, frog-like croak. When surprised in its roosting hollow or nest, it makes hissing and rasping noises and snapping sounds that are often called bill snapping, but possibly made by clicking the tongue.

Hi Stephanie,
a beautiful shot of a flying owl...
nicely focused... like the framing as well..
thanks much for the note...
well done...

I am envious, still have not got an owl shot myself, well taken flight shot.

Hi Steph, Congratulations. Your first pic of the flight has come out really well. The details are sharp.

Very good try. Keep tinkering with the camera settings and keep trapping these guys in flight. Good luck.

Well done, Stephanie.
I was browsing the bird category in the gallery for specs about my latest post (hornbill) and discovered your in flight.
Good work:-)

Hi Stephanie,
and what a great first shot it is. You did ecellent on this action photo. Very well timed, capturing the wings in a beautiful out stretched position. The sharpness and colors are very nice.

Congratulations Steph, this is a nice première! This POV and composition are very nice. Details could have been accentuated I think but not really by using this aperture. I like the way you capture it flying almost to you :) This must have been an interesting experience and something special to see. I have never seen flying owls so far in “real”. Well done! TFS,

Bonne prise de vue, le focus est très bien, l'angle sous lequel l'oiseau regarde est superbe.

Hi Steph, for a first inflight it's very good. The composition is ok. It's a shame the BG is quite busy but there's not much you can do about that. Nice work.

The less said about the jokes the better...

..owl be seeing you

Hello Stephanie,
Bravo for this première, it's a great capture, you are right to be proud!
Nice focus, details on the bird are perfect, good POV.
Well done!

Hi Stephanie,
Congratulations to your first in flight picture. Perfect with wings fully spread out. Well composed picture. TFS,

Beautiful, nice timing, POV and DOF

Just going through your shots,

this is great. I see owls so often hovering after mice and the such, but by the time I've faffed around with getting my camera out, no owl!
You've captured this one well. Beautiful face and good movement.
Did the trainer do many fly pasts or was this a one time hit?
Whatever, it's still great. Very jealous

Muy buenas Stephanie
Un bonito vuelo el que captaste de esta lechuza (Tyto alba)
Como le cojas el gusto a los vuelos no pararás.
Un saludo
