Collared Scops Owl
(Otus bakkamoena)
Size: 23 cm - VR/RB - JLP

Small, brownish owl; ear tufts sometimes visible.

A soft hoo-o repeated at regular intervals.

A very adaptable and successful bird found in all kinds of wooded habitats, such as forests, parks and mature gardens, from lowland coastal areas to lower montane elevations. Very vocal during the breeding season; the most likely owl in the region to be heard or seen. Feeds on insects and small reptiles; nests in tree cavities.

Very rare resident breeder in Singapore.
