Brown-Throated Sunbird (Plain-Throated)
Size: 14 cm

Description:
Male has brown throat and metallic blue shoulder patch. Female recognized with difficulty by strong bill and uniform olive-yellowish plumage.

Voice:
A loud monotonous chiff-chaff.

Habits:
Prefers rural cultivation, coconut groves, mature gardens and secondary growth. Found often near the coast and on offshore islands, never in closed forest. It feeds on nectar and tiny insects late in the morning, flying from flower to flower. The nest is a pouch with side entrance, suspended low in a tree.

Distribution:
Common resident breeder throughout the island.
