Scaly Green Lorikeet (Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus)

Greenie, Green and Gold Lorikeet

Length about 23 cm, weight about 75-80 grams

The Scaly Breasted Lorikeet has a plain but beautiful arrangment of colours. The body is different shades of green. Intercepted by yellow barring on the breast, spreading down to the abdomen. The beak ranges from light orange to dark red. The underside of the tail is yellow. The wings are red with black at the edges

Mainly feeding on tree blossoms and some insects, they have readily adapted to introduced fruit crops. Preferring timbered areas and roosting in large noisy flocks at night, they set out to forage all day returning at night to the same roost. Breeding from August to January, the usual number of eggs is two. When the local food supply runs out, they may disappear overnight, having moved on to search for a more productive area.

Therefore, an orchardist may have few lorikeets one day and thousands the next. Often many hundreds of Scaly-breasted Lorikeets can be seen feeding with equal numbers of Rainbow Lorikeets.Being unprepared, may result in major losses.

hi stephanie,
jolie prise de vue, les couleurs sont flamboyantes. La lumière est diffuse, la netteté à améliorer un petit peu.

The Lorikeet is posing well for the beautiful photographer.

Lovely colors on this lorikeet, esp. the beak. Very good pov and exposure. Could perhaps be sharpened a tad more. Well done. Cheers!

bonjour stephanie
un tres bel oiseau, jolies couleurs et bons details dans le plumage.
si je peux me permettre tu aurais dû cadrer differement pour laisser de l'espace devant la tête de l'oiseau.

Hi Stephanie,
Very good close up of this lorikeet!
I like so much the close apporach and all the clear details got, specially the beak's color gradation.
It's very good also the DOF to get this soft and nice background.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,

Hi Stephanie...lovely detail in the feathers, the texture is wonderful. The orange beak stands out beautifully and the tilt of the head towards you is spot on - well captured!
