[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Its been awhile since I posted any photo's so its about time. This shot is a little tight but it was the best shot I could get before this big caterpillar crawled away. I spotted it as I arrived home parking my motorbike. The caterpillar was about 8 to 10 cm long. I grabbed my camera and tried to get the best shot I could. I left my bikes headlight on to provide some lighting from behind as well as to maintain the ability to just see the thing. The colours were very suprising when I looked at the photograph as I couldn't see the colours on the caterpillar at the time of shooting.
What spieces is this?

What a great macro, Matthew!
I simply am amazed by how many beautiful colors this caterpillar has. WOW. Very good POV and superb details.
Bravo and TFS

Hi Matthew,
Nice shot! I have a picture of quite simmilar fellow judging on the look of it's face. It may a Lymantria dispar known as Gypsy Moth. It has a row of blue dots on the first part of the body and a row of red ones on the hind part. That makes it look quite beauitful.
The picture is good. I think the tight framing works well, but I think the colours are a little oversaturated. The blue has quite unnatural shade, it is lighter in reality.
Overall, well done on this one!

Hi Matthew,
Interesting capture.
Very nice details, sharp and colors.
Well done.

Great photo - brings a huge smile to my face for some reason. Like some sort of insect-clown!

Great detail, lovely colours.

Hi Matt
Wow, I don't know the ID, but I can tell you that don't make this guy/gal less pleasing. It is an amazing macro shot and you have really brought out the colours to be enjoyed by all. Those bright blue headlights at the base of the bristles sure tell you that you do not want to mess with this one. If one was never burned by a hairy caterpillar you might be careless by trying to move it to a spot where you can take some more photos, but if you know what potent punch these caterpillars carry then you know to leave them in peace to go on their own undisturbed way.
I like this in-your-face approach with the taking and the cropping of the shot while you still show a significant amount of the body. The colours are rich and well saturated, the details are tack sharp and it is part of what makes this shot a real winner. The dark BG is great although almost unmentionable as the big fat worm fills the frame and the exposure was absolutely spot-on.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Matthew,
Good picture. Like it very much.
Read your intro page. Great story. South Korea and photography? I remember the worldchampionship football there. The 'photography' was outstanding. Better than the last one in Germany in my opinion. So it might been a good learning school, I guess?

Hi Matt!
I love this colourful shot, very good and original macro, great POV and details!

hi matthew
excellente macro de cette chenille tres colorée.de bons details.
bravo.
laurent

Simply a spectacular shot! Amazing macro with the flash getting just enough DOF and a very sharp focus, and very smart to use your bike's light to backlight it. The colors are amazing - real National Geographic stuff! We also get a few monster caterpillars here from time to time - they look as if they've come from another planet, and your picture really does this one justice.

Criativo e bonito.
Raimundo

I can't believe it is so beatiful, wonderful colour and very sharpeness
Enrico

And hello again! ;>
And again fantastic facro. This portrait is not only very colourful (mosaic on the catepillar's hear s really amazing) but can be characterized by very good details!
Anyway, how big was this specimen?
Best greetings,

Mathew,
It, to me, matters little what spices it is. I only know that this is an OUTSTANDING image, whatever the type of caterpillar.
Excellent photography, my friend,
