This unknow to me spider was found on the Island of Koh Tao in Thailand. It was sitting really nice at eye level and I thought this would make an easy shot, especially with the ringflash to penetrate the light into his housing.

The shot was indeed an easy one untill I found out that the mosquitos resting inside the brush thought I would make a nice snack!

I wish I could tell more about the spider, but maybe someone can shine a light on it's name?

Flash Used: Yes
Focal Length: 100 mm
Exposure Time: 1/125 sec
Aperture: f/16
ISO Equivalent: 200
Exposure Bias: -1/3

Brilliant capture Mike,
I just know that this image will be very popular here on TN.
Good detail and colours. Great POV and sharpness.
Nicely composed and good exposure. I can't help with the ID, but I'm sure a few members will be able to help you.
Thanks for posting. Have a great weekend.

Hi Mike,
very nice composition and capture!
Well done

Oh, she just seems ready to jump out! Your ring flash has provided excellent lightning, with a beautiful silvery shine on the silk tunnel. Excellent point of view and tense moment. Your capture is well worth some hundred bumps from mosquito bites :-).
Thanks for showing. Patrick

Great composition and details for this "never easy" capture.
You managed lights very nicely.
Great work, TFS. Regards, Felipe.

A very interesting and unusual perspective of this spider inside its nest. Very sharp details on the spider. Hope you are recovering from your mosquito bites. TFS. : )

Superb POV on this shot, Mike!

An excellent composition with great details, lighting, and sense of danger...

Well done and thank you.

It's an excellent POV Mike. It shows the spider as well its lair very well at F16.
Excellent job of getting this one with great use of flash. As far as ID, I've no idea. That is the part of macro I'm constantly frustrated with myself...Very well done!

WOW, stunning POV and composition. Excellent use of DOF, detail and colour great as well. The attractive funnel-type web is well shown. One of the most interesting spider shots I have seen here. Straight to my favourites!

Hello Mike,
Most probably this is a species of family Agelenidae - Funnel Weaver Spiders. The name comes from the funnel like web they make and this one apparently made one :-)
A very good shot.
Best greetings,
