Todays post is from my archives. Keel-billed Toucan captured in Belize summer 2006.
20D @ 400mm, handhold, 1/50sec. natural light ISO-800. Sometimes you can walk a round looking for the birds up in the trees and when you are tired and no good shots... you simply look down and you have bird 10M from you almost on the ground trying to get rest of my papaya which I lost on the ground...

The Keel-Billed Toucan, Ramphastos sulfuratus, is a colorful South and Central American bird with a large bill. This social bird lives in small flocks in lowland rain-forests, but as it is a poor flayer, the toucan moves mostly by hopping around trees.

Keel-billed toucans average around 20 inches in length. Their large and colorful bills averages around 5-6 inches, but can be up to one third of its length.

Keel billed toucans can be found from Southern Mexico to around Venezuela and Colombia. They roost in the canopies of tropical, subtropical, and lowland rain-forests...

Hej Ralf,

Oj vad jag längtar till regnskogen!!

Ralf, Wow! What a colorful bird. You really have steady hand to shoot this at 1/50 holding the 400 mm lens on hand. The color of the bark complements.

Hi Ralf,
Great story and a beautiful portrait of this Toucan. I never saw one this close when I was in Belize many years ago!. The composition is excellent and the colours vibrant, without being too oppressive. Focus and DOF are just right. Well done, and thanks.

Very natural color and sharp details.

Hi Ralf

Lucky you, I saw several Keel-bills, but never long enough to shoot. Did get some nice Emerald Tucanets thought.

Good shot, especially at 1/50 sec and good light. They are a spectatcular bird in the wild. Great stuff.
