This is a Band-winged Dragonlet (Erythrodiplax umbrata) a neotropical dragonfly from the family Libellulidae. Unfortunately I couldn’t find much info on this species. It seems to occur from southern USA through central America and the Carribean to northern South America at least into Brazil and Paraguay. We found it in both Belize and Costa Rica. This species has a wingspan of around 75mm and is found in lowland wetlands to 400m.
This one, a young male, was captured at the huge lagoon at Crooked Tree, where there were surprisingly few dragonflies. Adult males are charcoal black and you can see one in the workshop. Females are brownish and don’t usually have the bands in the wings.

Hallo Chris
I always find the way the dragonflies hold on to a branch or stem of a flower very amusing and enjoyable. This one of yours is no exception. The Creation is so wonderful. Just to think that a tiny insect like this can hold on to something with such preciseness. You have captured this Band-winged Dragonlet with accuracy and beautiful displayed detail. Well composed with good clear details and nicely saturated colour. Excellent soft background drawing the attention right to the main subject. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day.
Kind regards
Anna
