Hi Lou,
The shell you have here is a limpet.
Unfortunately, this one is a bit overexposed (too bright) and a bit soft in focus.
To photograph this clearer,I would have moved a little further away, and focussed on the brighter part towarsds the top edge of the limpet.
Then the whole shell would be a bit darker and shaply focussed.
You could then crop it and enlarge it if you wanted too.
I always like to try and find out what I have photographed by looking in a book or on a website.
Then I can write a few notes about the species.
It doesn't matter if you don't write in English.
You can write some information in your own language and we can translate using the Yahoo or Google translator.
I hope this helps.

They eat algae off the rocks :)

Hoi Lou,

Hi Laurens,
Lovely capture.Excellent POV,lighting and composition.Thanks for posting.

Hi Laurens,
A nice capture of this beautiful shell buried in sand. Very well composed with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Laurens !
Reminds me my childhood, when we went on holiday to the sea - there were shells in France which look very much like that. I really like how this one is hiding in the hole of the rock, and the textures you captured both on the rock and the shell are nice too. Very well done !

A small, patellid gastropod in a small hole burrowed by itself Laurens, your dorsal POV shows only the shell of this slow moving mollusc, they forage the rock face for algae and detritic matter nocturnally then return to their "holes" for the daytime, passing the majority of their lives in the supralittoral zones...but surely they do not eat rock!

Hello Lou,
a beautiful and interesting capture of this shell, i like the nice composition with the splendid shapes of the beautiful shell and colourful rock.
Best regards
