[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Owl butterflies, of which there are around 20 different species, are members of the genus Caligo, in the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae. They are found in the rainforests and secondary forests of Central and South America.

It's defense system is to mimic its environment in the chrisalys state (dried leaf) or predators (the fake owl eye or the snake head)

Hi Roberto

This is a fantastic shot! The timing here is exceptional and shows this splendid species as it is comming out from its pupa and unfolding its wings for the first time...what a magical moment!
The details and colors of your picture are impeccable and the DOF that you used is perfect to show the entire beauty of this butterfly.
I'm guessing this was taken in an artifical environment due to the nailed pupae one next to another there, but that doesn't minimize your talent in taking the shot.

Bravo and TFS

Nice work Roberto

Well timmed good colours

Splendid example
