or to be precise: "Astraptes fulgerator".

Interesting to read that it is night active.
Pretty good documentary shot. I like how you show the flasher's brilliant iridenscence on wings and body.

Hello Laurens.
Yes, this is a butterfly, member of family Hesperidae. I believe that this specimen was atracted to the light not because it is night active but because it was just next to the source of light :) It is happened from time to time, not only in case of day-active butterflies but also dragonflies and damselflies :)
Anywa, interesting presentation and very unique colouration of this little cute species :>

What great reaction time you have! The colors are magnificent and the head is sparkling. Your trousers make a good background - it shows off very well. Excellent sharpness of the entire moth from the antennae to the tip of the wings.

Wanneer ik al die moooie foto's van jou uit Costa Rica zie, heb ik het idee dat ik daar met mijn ogen dicht heb gelopen. Een beetje overdreven natuurlijk, maar je hebt er uit gehaald wat er uit te halen viel.
Weer een prachtige opname. Mooie kleuren en erg goede scherpte. Uitstekende compositie.
