Parrot Snake
Leptophis ahaetulla

This beautiful arboreal colubrid snake can be found in Mexico and throughout Central & South America. It's diet consist of frogs, lizards, and small birds. This snake is diurnal and can be found in trees and bushes hunting for it's next meal. This particular snake is well known for the stance it is displaying in this image, it is more of a bluff and hopes it will scare off any potential threats, sometimes it will lunge forward at a short distance to clarify it's intentions.

great shoot beautiful snake i like the way the head is so crips and sharp...

Hi Paul,
Amazing creature and you captured it extremely well. Its intentions are crystal clear, I guess.
Its head is so well photographed.
The image is spectacular and simple and as often in your work there's the confrontational impact.
Well done technically. I wonder whether there's flash involved and whether you used a tripod or not. I suspect two times a no.
Not sure though.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful bluff.

Hello Paul,
Nice one from your archives!
The focusing on the head of this snake is perfect with the body adding nicely to the composition.
Whether this is digital or scanned analogue, the quality is superb, especially considering it is nearly 8 yrs old!
Thanks for sharing this beauty,

what a head capture! nice picture, nice species, tfs

Magnificent expression of this snake.
Beutiful sharpness and colors.

Awesome shot Paul, I especially like the "deep throat" POV :)
The short DOF works perfectly here, the eyes R clear & sharp..
Well done!!

Hi Paul,
you pulled the "trigger" in exact right moment and caught a great shot of the bluffing snake.
The head stand out great both because of the sharpness and the rather shallow DOF. Perfect exposer with wonderful colours.
High quality as usual.

What an amazing POV, Paul.
Fantastic view of the open mouth.
What did you say to him to make him so active?
Great focus on the head, and the shallow DOF gives the shot a great sense of movement, not to mention the perfect S shape.
An exciting shot, as usual. : )

Hola Paul.

A visually stunning picture as usual in all your work Paul. which shows the quality of the photographer who made these works an art.
The focus on the head of this snake is of high quality, as the light and the fine diffuse background is very beautiful and gives added value to the image.
Congratulations on this beautiful photo Paul.
If you ever want to come to Mexico, I gladly receive you at my house My friend, but I dont have a lot of frogs around here, just a snakes.

Hi Paul
Wow, your timing was impeccable to capture this impressive pose. I think I would turn and run the other way. I'm not sure which is worse the snake or grizzly bear. I sure love his colour, it's very striking..no pun intended.
TFS Janice
