Lungless Salamander
(Bolitoglossa striatula)

Of all the times I have been to Costa Rica this is a first time I have seen this particular species of salamander. I was walking on a trail at night and discovered a basilisk that had caught my attention as I was getting ready to photograph it I had noticed a small lizard shape sitting on a wet leaf a few feet away from me, that's when I realized it was a salamander. I was quite satisfied with the discovery. These animals are interesting as it is unique from other species due to it's ability to breath through it's skin and the tissues around it's mouth.

Hello Paul,
A very special photo in great sharpness and details. Beautiful colours. I miss some exif data, but I think it is flashed. Beautiful red leaf in the background.

Hallo Paul
Salamanders are not one of my favourite species of animals or in this case Amphibians, but this one is truly very remarkable to look at and appreciate. I have never seen one of these and I find it rather fascinating. The texture of its skin is very interesting to look at and reminds me of the bark of a tree, even the colour and detail is very eye-catching. Best regards and thanks for sharing.

This is a great and interesting species on a perfect picture! I like the combination of colors and textures with the leaf, water and ligt. This is great. Congratulation and saludos.

Hi Paul,
never seen this salamander before. It's great to see you still produce high standard pictures, I will never forget the cigar smocking frog ;-)
This is up to you normal high standard, we can all learn from such a great image.
I think everything is right here.
A pleasure to view.
Great work, my friend.

Hi, Interesting species taken with great light and colors along with beautiful details. The red BG just perfect and the water around gives nice moist feelings. Best regards
