[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As far as i an concerned the name of this 13cm wingspan butterfly is simply: Blue Butterfly.
It is extremely difficult to catch a specie like this (it is alife). On postcards and brochures you will only find dead ones. This one took off after the photo was taken. Magnificent creature.

Quote: (Thanks to coasties and http://www.butterflycreek.co.nz/)
Morpho butterflies are prized by butterfly collectors, due to the bright iridescent blue color of the wings on most species. In contrast, the underside is dark brown, providing some camouflage for a resting individual. In addition, there is a row of eyespots on the underside that are useful in startling would-be predators. The blue color comes, not from a pigment, but from iridescence - the reflection and refraction of light through prism-like, portions of the scales.

What a superb and interesting butterfly that you have well captured ! The blue is wonderful on wings. A bigger size for picture would have been pleasant... Congratulations Joost and thanks for sharing.
