Leptotes cassius, commonly known as the Cassius Blue or Tropical Striped Blue, is a butterfly of the Lycaenidae family. It is found in Florida and the Keys, Texas south through the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America to South America. Strays can be found in New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri and South Carolina.
The wingspan is 20–35 mm.
The butterfly species has an important role in Marisha Pessl's 2006 novel Special Topics in Calamity Physics. The protagonist, Blue van Meer, is named in honor of the Cassius Blue.
The caterpillars feed natively on Fabaceae. Foodplants on record are Amorpha crenulata, Woolly Rattlepod (Crotalaria incana), Galactia regularis and Lima Bean (Phaseolus lunatus). It can also successfully develop feeding on Cape Leadwort (Plumbago auriculata) or Doctorbush (P. scandens), which (among the eudicots) are not closely related to its usual foodplants.
The subspecie "theonus"(Lucas, 1857) is found only in Florida, Cuba, Bahamas, Greater Antilles.

Hello Luciano,
Beautiful species this "Cassius Blue". Well captured if we look st its details as well as its exposure. I like its frontal facing POV too.
Just DIGITAL NOISE in BG, which you could removed easily, the way I removed it and posted it in your WS.
Thanks for sharing,

Hello Luciano,
Very interesting butterfly specie. Lovely colors.
I noticed that in macro photography image noise appears pronounced when there is large difference between subject and background lighting. Regardless of the camera used this problem always occurs.....It is more pronounced when the camera has a smaller sensor. I use ACDSee Ultimate 8 to remove digital noise.

Ciao Luciano
£Une superbe prise, bonne netteté sur le papillon.
Jolis détails sur la tête et les antennes.

Hello Luciano
Lovely capture of this Cassius Blue. The soft lighting brings out the colour of the butterfly and the surrounding vegetation nicely. Fine detail and excellent DOF. Great notes too.
