From my first trip to Cuba.

The Cuban Green Woodpecker is perhaps the most common and widespread woodpecker on Cuba, and is one of two woodpeckers that are endemic to this island. Only the upperparts of this woodpecker are green. It also has a black crown and throat; the sides of the head are white, crossed by a black stripe behind the eye; the nape and the upper breast are red; and the underparts are yellow, streaked with black. There is a short crest on the rear crown. The Cuban Green Woodpecker occupies many different types of forest, including mangroves, and occurs from the lowlands up to 2000 m. This species usually forages singly or in pairs, but sometimes is encountered in small groups of three to five individuals. The diet is not well known, but anecdotal accounts emphasize the relatively large size of the insects that the Cuban Green Woodpecker consumes.
