Coccoloba uvifera L.
Uva de Playa, Seagrape, Meertraube,
"Uva Caleta" in Cuba ...

... is “a sprawling evergreen bush or small tree that is found near sea beaches throughout tropical America and the Caribbean, including southern Florida, the Bahamas, Barbados and in Bermuda where it is called the Bay Grape. It reaches a maximum height of 8 metres, but most specimens are little more than 2 metres tall. It has large, round, leathery leaves with a primary vein that has a red color extending from the base, and the entire leaf turns red as it ages. The bark is smooth and yellowish. In late summer it bears green fruit that gradually turns orange, to red, until there is a purplish fruit, about 2 centimetres diameter, in large grape-like clusters." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccoloba_uvifera)

Muy abundante en todas las playas de la Isla de Cuba.
And always impressing to see this vigourous plant there, just as charming, vital and colourful as Cuba's people.

Lieber Peter,
Anne

Hi dear Peter.
I cannot imagine more precise reproduction of the leaf. Amazing pattern created by Nature. Very attractive play of sunlight reflection of the leaf surface. Combination of green and red colours are wonderful and pleasant for looking. DOF and details are incredible. Thanks for showing of this beauty and all the best for you and your family.
Yours Alexei.

Hello Peter,

Best regards

Hi Peter,
NATURE GOT THERE FIRST:Obviously you use this photo, when teaching colour theory at the design department of the University in Vienna.

Botanic Architecture has also been an inspiration e.g. the ribstructure of the huge leaves of the South American Waterlily for the cast iron structure of the Crystal Palace.

The combination of shape and colours in your image is very pleasing for the viewer.

Enjoy the rest of your week,
Kind regards
Ingrid

Hi Peter,
Finally, a botanical shot in your gallery. ☺ And what a great one! The unique textures of the huge leaf is breathtaking, color saturation is just the optimal and you used the late afternoon lights in a perfect way. Simplistic yet wonderful, minimalistic yet gorgeous! Bravo!
Kind regards from Ireland, László
