Just a terns group to close my dominican serie...i hope you had like that...

Class: Aves

Order: Ciconiiformes

Family: Sternidae

Genus: Thalasseus

Species: T. maximus

The Royal Tern (Thalasseus maximus, syn. Sterna maxima - see Bridge et al., 2005) is a seabird in the tern family Sternidae. This bird has two distinctive subspecies.
T. m. maximus breeds on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the southern USA and Mexico into the Caribbean. The slightly smaller T. m. albididorsalis breeds in coastal west Africa.
American birds winter south to Peru and Argentina, and African breeders move both north and south from the breeding colonies.
African birds may reach as far north as Spain. This species has also wandered to western Europe as a rare vagrant, these records probably being from the American colonies.
This species breeds in colonies on coasts and islands. It nests in a ground scrape and lays one or two eggs. Like all white terns, it is fiercely defensive of its nest and young.
Royal Tern feeds by plunge-diving for fish, usually from saline environments, like most Sterna terns. It usually dives directly, and not from the "stepped-hover" favoured by Arctic Tern. The offering of fish by the male to the female is part of the courtship display.
This is a large tern, second only to Caspian Tern but is unlikely to be confused with that carrot-billed giant, which has extensive dark underwing patches. Royal Tern has a long yellow bill, pale grey upperparts and white underparts. Its legs are black. In winter, the black cap becomes patchy. Juvenile Royal Terns have a scaly-backed appearance. The call is a characteristic loud grating noise like a Sandwich Tern.
In various parts of its range, Royal could be confused with Elegant Tern, Great Crested Tern and Lesser Crested Tern (see also Orange-billed tern). It is paler above than Lesser Crested Tern and the yellow-billed Great Crested Tern. Elegant Tern has a longer more curved bill and shows more white on the forehead in winter.
The appearance of apparent Elegant Terns in European waters means that records of Royal and Elegant Terns will need to be re-evaluated, since the latter species was thought an improbable migrant to the area.
The Royal Tern is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.

Hi Luciano

I am pretty sure that these are terns rather than gulls - Ivan or Peter will know! Anyway, a lovely composition - great beahvioural grouping against a lovely background.

James

Ciao Lucioano,
Complimenti amico, felice Domenica.

Hi Luciano,

I hope there's a follow-up picture to show where he finally landed! This Tern looks wonderful in-flight and I love the assortment of poses of the others who seem to be ignoring him. Fantastic timing to get this one with excellent details.

Jane

Hi Luciano,

What a great composition! Light was used very well, despite the light coming from the opposite side. Bravo and TFS.

Cher Luciano!

Markus

Ciao Luciano,
Beautiful scane.Well caught and composed.I liked use of backlight and visual impact a lot.Have a nice sunday!
Thanks for posting..

Bonjour Luciano,
Bon dimanche,
Catherine

Hi my friend Luciano. An excellent POV for these beautiful sea birds, very good composed with nice colors.
TFS.
Kind regards,
Özgür

Ciao Luciano, eh si i Caraibi ti hanno ispirato gli uccelli, bellissima composizione, ottimo tempismo, fantastica luce, bravissimo, buona Domenica, ciao Silvio

Ciao Luciano
Livio

Ciao amico Luciano,

Impressive capture of these terns witha thematic title:)
The focus looks perfect. Fantastic lighting and details too.
Inspiring work my friend, well photographed.
TFS and have a nice Sunday!

Ciao Luciano,
Buona giornata
Ciao Maurizio

hello Luciano
great composition with very good light
beautiful colours and good details
very nice picture
greeting lou

Cioa Luciano.

Ciao Luciano,
The evening light made a fine pink colour of the sea to provide an attractive and unusual BG to the rock with its group of Royal Terns. They are shown with fine sharpness and colours and the one coming in to land adds to the composition.
Nice work!
Thanks and have a good week,
Ivan

Precioso contraluz con luces y colores sorprendentemente bellos. Encuadre algo ajustado a mi gusto.

Hi Luciano,
Nice informative notes. Well framed and captured of these sea birds looking for a spot to park. The silhouette of the solid mass well contrasted against the warm glow of the sun reflecting off the water.

Hello Luciano,
In spite of the poor light you got a really nice capture of these Terns competing for space. Great focus on the birds and just enough light to show their features really well. A great composition too!
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Ciao Luciano,
This is a magic pic, and technically bloody professional, because You were able to get advantage from disadvantage. Originally You had poor lights, but You solved the problem in a fantastic way, with overexposured background and underexposured main theme, meanwhile the balance in between them is remarkable. The contrast is fantastic, so is the composition itself, with both flying and sitting "models", timing is perfect, and the whole image is simply brilliant. Splendid job, amico. Bravo.
Ciao e grazie, Ladislao

Hello Luciano,
Beautiful scene.Nice Light in BG with beautiful colour of water.Sharp focus on the flying tern.Like it.
Thanks for sharing,
Regards and have a nice Sunday,
