The Great Southern White can come in a variety of off white color tones. This particular specimen had a very faint bluish tint to its color which really caught my attention.

The females of this species can be either light or dark colored with shades of smoke gray or even hues of yellow. What I really liked about these beautiful butterflies was the way the veins in their wings seemed to stand out.

I could spend hours photographing these gorgeous winged insects! and I usually do;)

Hi Ron,

The subject is well framed. The point of view is showing the details of the Great Southern White Ascia Monuste butterfly. The sharpness is very good. The light is giving nice tints to the colours. Have a nice dya.

Hello Ron

Very attractive picture of this Ascia monuste with an excellent presentation on the flower and a very vivid capture of the wings.

Technical achievement

• Excellent focus on the wings and in the same times on the small inflorescence
• Perfect exposure with an appropriate choice of aperture/speed and iso.
• Perfect depth of field and sharpness – The lateral view is a good choice
• Good contrast
• Excellent sharpness showing all the details of the wings and the proboscis in action inside the flowers
• Precise white balance and exact colour rendering for the butterfly and the flowers
• Correct post processing without too much excess
• Good background blurr.

• Interesting picture with a combination of the two world (insects and flowers); very good capture.
• Efficient framing and composition with an appropriate disposition of the subject inside the frame. Dynamic composition in diagonal. Only a small, small, small point: not easy to distinguish the two antennas.
