I really don't know what specific species of wasp this is from Nicaragua, but by the construction of their nest I know it is a type of Paper Wasp.

I took this photo in my daughter’s back yard when the nest was covered with a fairly large number of individuals. The wasps didn't seem to be very aggressive towards my flash, but I was careful to stay a good distance away just in case.

This is just one of about five nests I counted in a small section of her yard. I never saw them swarming around the nest, they just stayed on the outside like this in a very contented state.

Image size restrictions on TN suck, Ron.
Nevertheless, this is a great capture of Paper Wasp's nest you found in the backyard of your daughter's house is Nicaragua.
You would perhaps recall that I too had posted the pictures of Paper Wasp's nest I had found in the gap between glass and gauge shutters in a bathroom in my house. However, the shape of the nest in my case was quite different.
Good that you did not go too close to it; you never know!

Hello Ron, a very nice image with interesting wasp....The details are stunning. Perfect focus and clarity as usual.

Ciao Ron, fantastic nest, fine details, excellent sharpness and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Ron,
Well captured this nest of Wasp. I'm quite aware; better to say sufferer how their poison reacts. In my childhood days, I entered in to bushes to search Cricket ball and they thought I'm their enemy and reacted with me the way enemy reacts with enemy!
Your picture reminds those days. Leave the story....
Like nice exposure on nest as well as Wasps. Well isolation from BG. Beautiful bokeh too.
Thanks for sharing,

Beautiful. I also found a similar nest in India but I did not finds wasps around it. It would be interesting to find our the name of this wasp. While looking at this photo, I was searching for information on paper wasps and I found this interesting article about an Indian Scientist working for 40 years studying the behavioral ecology of a particular paper wasp.
