[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While in Nicaragua I had the good fortune of visiting my first active volcano. The Masaya volcano is no stranger to showing off, displaying some type of eruption activity no less then 37 time periods since 1524.

The volcano is a real tourist attraction, but was closed off to the public late last year. It was again opened to visitor just before Rosie and I arrived in Nicaragua in June.

We were only allowed to get so close to the rim, so this is the best shot of the lava that I could obtain.
Most of the time you can't even see any lava, due to the ever rising dense smoke which had a strong sulfur smell to it.

I will never forget the sound coming from the bottom of the crater. The glowing lava appeared to move back and forth like an ocean tide crashing into the shore.

At night the entire area surrounding the crater is engulfed in an errie orangish glow. I wish I could had gotten a night shot, but we visited the park only during the day time.

Hi Ron,
I don't know why you received so few comments, on TN we very rarely see photos of an active volcano. This one's spectacular and mystical, and of course a little bit scary as well, a fantastic memory of a never-to-be-forgotten trip. Majestic image with the crater and the lava, well done (for the WS, too).
