[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During my stay in Tobago I spend several hours in the Arnos Vale hotel. This hotel is famous for its hummingbirds. You will find in Trinidad and Tobago 17 members of the hummingbird family. In the gardens of this hotel I saw seven species!
Unfortunately I'm not a real hummingbirdexpert so it's hard for me to tell you what you are seeing on photo. I think it's a rufous-breasted hermit, but I'm not quite sure.
Hummingbirds are known for their ability to hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings, 15 to 80 times per second (depending on the size of the bird) Unlike other bird species capable of limited hovering, the hummingbird is alone in its ability to fly deliberately backwards or vertically, and to maintain position for drinking from flower blossoms. They are named for the characteristic hum made by their wings.
Hummingbirds are attracted to many flowering plants especially those with red flowers. They feed on the nectar of these plants and are important pollinators, especially of deep-throated flowers. Most species of hummingbird also take insects, especially when feeding young.
Most male hummingbirds take no part in nesting. most species make a neatly woven cup in tree branch. Two white eggs are laid, which despite being smallest of all bird eggs, are in fact large relative to the hummingbird's adult size. Incubation is typically 14-19 days.

Tomorrow I will you show you another member of the big hummingbird family.

HI Zeno,
a very nice inflight shot with good details.
The body is pinsharp and the wings are nicely blurred.
The shallow DOF helps the bird to standout nicely fomr te BG.
IMO it's a bit tight infront of the bird
Excellent work.

Hello Zeno,
what a beautiful bird and such a great inflight capture. Great pose and winderful motion blur on the wings. Sharpness, POV and colors are excellent.

great capture and wonderful detail and sharpness. I really like the colours as well, but think you need just a touch more space in front of the bird to balance the composition - but guessing you were trying prevent the birds body from being in the center...
